Care Guide

Care Guide

Welcome to Sivien Design Collective!

Proper maintenance ensures your furniture remains beautiful, functional, and long-lasting. The following guidelines outline simple steps to preserve the condition and performance of each material type in your home.

1. General care

To maintain the overall appearance and durability of your furniture, avoid exposing pieces to direct sunlight, which can cause fading, discoloration, and cracking. Keep indoor temperature and humidity levels stable, as extreme conditions may damage various materials. Use coasters, placemats, and protective pads to prevent scratches, stains, and heat marks. Clean any spills immediately using a soft, dry cloth.

2. Upholstery

Regular care helps preserve texture and comfort. Vacuum fabric surfaces with a soft brush attachment to remove dust and reduce wear. If spills occur, always blot gently rather than rubbing to avoid spreading stains or damaging fibers. For deeper cleaning, follow the manufacturer’s fabric care code or engage a professional upholstery cleaner. Keep sharp objects away from upholstered pieces to prevent tears or snags.

3. Leather

Leather develops character over time, but it requires consistent upkeep. Dust with a soft cloth weekly to maintain its natural sheen. When needed, clean using a damp cloth and mild pH-neutral soap. Apply a suitable leather conditioner every 6 to 12 months to preserve suppleness and prevent drying. Keep all leather furnishings away from direct heat sources to avoid cracking.

4. Timber

Timber surfaces benefit from gentle, regular dusting using a soft, dry cloth. When cleaning is necessary, use non-abrasive products specifically designed for wood. Never leave standing water on surfaces, as moisture can cause staining and warping; always dry immediately. To protect against scratches, place felt pads under decorative items and accessories.

5. Metal and Glass Furniture

Metal components should be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then dried thoroughly to prevent corrosion. For glass tops or accents, use glass cleaner or a vinegar solution applied with a lint-free cloth to achieve a clear, streak-free finish. Avoid abrasive pads on both metal and glass surfaces, as they may scratch coatings or polished finishes.

6. Hardware and Moving Parts

Check screws, hinges, runners, and sliders periodically and tighten when required. If moving mechanisms become stiff, lubricate them using products suitable for their specific material and function.

7. Regular Inspection

Every few months, examine your furniture for signs of wear, loose joints, or minor structural concerns. Addressing small issues early helps extend the lifespan and overall performance of your pieces.
